Water Ties present Central American progress in regional forum about access to water

Managua, Nicaragua, November 25, 2015.– In the frame of the Central American Forum on Water and Integral Sanitation, powered by the national networks of organizations from Guatemala (RASGUA), Salvador (RASES), Honduras (RAS-HON) and Nicaragua (RASNIC) (which compose the Central American Water and Sanitation Network), FEMSA Foundation, Millenium Water Alliance (MWA) and other three partnerts: CARE, Water for People and WaterAid, presented the progress of Water Ties program in Central America.

In a gathering where the main theme was universal access to water and sanitation in rural areas, FEMSA Foundation, Coca-Cola Latin America and MWA presented the results Water Ties has had in Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua since 2013, the year the program was launched.

To this day, Water Ties has managed to benefit more than 9,000 Central Americans by providing access to safe water; more than 5,000 through improved sanitation; and more than 15,000 through the promotion of hygiene in three countries. The program activities include the construction and rehabilitation of water systems, the installation of safe water networks, hygiene education workshops, the installation of sanitation technologies, and the creation of water committees, among other activities.

The program also promotes a Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning platform (MEL), through which the partners can identify good practices and lessons learned, as well as learn from the successful and unsuccessful experiences of colleagues in different geographies. Thus, Water Ties seek to promote joint learning and the transfer of knowledge in the water sector.

Millennium Water Alliance (MWA), FEMSA Foundation and Coca-Cola Latin America carry out Water Ties initiative with the purpose of benefitting more than 100,000 people in Guatemala, Colombia, Honduras, Mexico and Nicaragua. It is an alliance between organizations of civil society, local governments, companies and communities, which aims to create actions that promote positive change, provide new and better opportunities, and contribute to the transformation of the lifestyle of people living in remote and marginalized rural areas, through sustainable cycles.
