San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas, September 9, 2019.- The Secretary of Ecology of the municipality of San Cristóbal de las Casas carried out its 2019 reforestation day in the Arcotete area, where Coca-Cola FEMSA joined forces for the environmental conservation of the area.
More than 200 volunteers, employees and authorities, participated in planting more than 5,700 endemic species of the region in an area of approximately 8 hectares. The reforestation day initiative helps avoid the erosion of the land, encourage the collection and distribution of water to the rivers and aquifers, and promote environmental conservation – flora and fauna of the region – for future generations, as well as the social integration of the community.
“At Coca-Cola FEMSA we are committed to carrying out actions that allow the conservation and sustainability of the environment, which is why since 2008 we have promoted the largest reforestation program in Mexico, through which we have managed to plant more than 79 million of trees, in addition to promoting projects for the conservation and access of water in the State”, said Hezbal Hernández Cancino, Corporate and Government Affairs Executive of Coca-Cola FEMSA.
As part of the Mexican Coca-Cola Industry, from 2008 to 2018 Coca-Cola FEMSA has contributed locally by planting more than 150 thousand 900 trees, restoring 640 hectares, and installing 29 community cisterns, 2 water-collecting pots and 38 water collector ceilings through the National Water Conservation and Harvest Program.
In the State of Chiapas, Coca-Cola FEMSA has 1 bottling plant and 9 distribution centers; all with the Clean Industry recognition. In addition, they serve more than 50 thousand 800 points of sale, creating more than 1,600 direct jobs and about 15 thousand indirect jobs.
The environmental condition of San Cristóbal de las Casas is everyones responsibility, join the cause!
